Larb Muang brings the true taste of Northern Thailand to Toronto. At this family-owned restaurant, Chef Porpy and her team share the flavours of Doi Saket, where food is more than just a meal—it’s a way of connecting with culture, land, and loved ones. The restaurant offers authentic Northern Thai dishes like Tum Ba Noon (spicy papaya salad with smoked fish), Larb Kua (spicy minced meat salad), and Nam Ngiaw (rice noodles with pork).

What Exactly Is Northern Thai Food?

The challenge for Larb Muang was to translate the authentic, rustic, and deeply personal flavours of Northern Thailand into a dining experience that would resonate with a new audience in Toronto. Northern Thai cuisine is unique—it's not what you find in the big cities like Bangkok, but the simple dishes with exotic tastes from the hills and villages. We needed to create a digital presence that reflected this authenticity and warmth while making it accessible to those unfamiliar with the traditions of the North.

Inspired by the Pattern of Northern Thai Textiles

The website and menu designs mirror the warm, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant, using a sleek black backdrop with intricate fabric patterns inspired by ผ้าไทยภาคเหนือ (Northern Thai textiles) that decorate the restaurant. These patterns, such as ผ้าไทยวน and ผ้าไทยลื้อ, add a cultural depth to the design, reflecting the restaurant’s roots in Doi Saket. We highlighted the restaurant’s bold dishes through vibrant, mouthwatering photos, making sure each image evokes the sensory experience of tasting Northern Thai food. The layout is simple and intuitive, ensuring customers can easily explore the menu and the story behind Larb Muang.

By blending rich visual design with an easy-to-use interface, we made sure the website not only conveyed the authenticity of Larb Muang’s food but also made guests feel like they were stepping into the warmth of Chef Porpy’s family kitchen in the heart of Northern Thailand.
